I understand that a photography session might make you a little nervous because you don’t always know what to expect, so to help you understand the process of our upcoming session and make things easier, I have put together some tips for you. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact me.
General Tips
- Read the news and watch the weather forecast.
- Don’t drink too much on the night before, it can make your face puffy in the morning. Try to sleep at least 8 hours.
-Don’t do anything drastic to your body/skin right before the session. If you must have a haircut, facial, tan, etc., try to do it several days before so your body has time to recover.
- Prepare your body, you will be in a long photo shoot and you might get very tired. There’s a chance you might have to climb up trees and walk far distances to find the best spots, so make sure you supply your body with water, vitamins, food.
- Bring things that make you unique. If you have any kind of interest that shows in vinyls, vintage accessories, hats, scarfs, sunglasses or other props, bring them! All these things will make your images more interesting and fun.
- Remember: there is no wrong pose, wrong dress. Just let if flow, and have fun!
Boudoir
- Make sure to reserve enough time, a full morning or afternoon.
- Brainstorm to come up with an exciting shoot location that reflects your personality, somewhere fun and romantic. A good option is a hotel, since it creates an intimate and luxurious environment.
Clothing
-Use an outfit that makes you feel amazing. Feeling comfortable and confident is key!
- Don’t over-match. If you have a family session, pick out colors that work together and make sure that everyone in the photo is dressed accordingly, either all casual or all dressed up.
- Consider the destination, you should dress appropriately for the purpose.
Make-up
-Use natural light to apply your make-up.
- Prepare your skin: wash, exfoliate, tone and lightly moisturize your face before applying make up. By doing this, you will prevent excess oil.
- If you are using a concealer, use 2 shades lighter than your skin tone to cover blemishes and dark spots.
- Choose a thicker foundation than usual if you have blemishes. You can also use translucent powder and reapply between shots, this creates a beautiful matte finish look.
- Overall make up application needs to be a bit heavier than usual, the flash of the camera can wash you out.
