I hope you dance

Meet Michaela and Jess. This is a session Michaela surprised Jess with- just because. And I had the best time photographing them as we walked around Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn and the DUMBO area.
I think the best part of my job is that I always get so inspired by seeing love take so many different forms. Every time I meet and spend time with different couples I realize how some people just seem to be MADE for each other. Ah! LOVE.
In this set there is a photo of Michaela in the carousel, looking up… just as the carousel started spinning. In that moment for some reason I remembered that song “I hope you dance”, one of the very few country songs I actually know (sorry country peeps!). Some lines in the song go… “I hope you never lose your sense of wonder… I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance, never settle for the path of least resistance, living might mean taking chances, but they’re worth taking… I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, dance”.
Michaela and Jess are in a long distance relationship and even though it’s obviously not easy, they make a choice every day to be there for each other, to laugh, and to look forward to the next time they can jump on each other for a big long hug (well, mostly Michaela jumping on Jess as you’ll see in these photos!). Anyway, those are my thoughts on this and I’m mushy and emotional because I love what I do. So. Very. Fu#$ing. Much.
